Illustration & Visual Narrative: Project 3 (Digital Triptych)
We had to pick a short story written by Edgar Allan Poe from https://poestories.com/stories.php. I chose the short story titled "Silence - A Fable". The story illustrate how there is a different type of silence that occurs within a person. First silence talks about how peaceful nature can be and how that type of silence can bring some sort of serenity. However, there comes to a point where this silence can be so loud where it can bring someone to insanity, with dark thoughts overcoming everything else. The last silence was talking about death, how one is permanently silenced in the form of death.
I wanted my triptych to look like a tarot card like how fortune tellers would talk about the past, the present and the future but instead this was three different type of silence. The borders for each panel would be different where sun signifies life, moon signifies the dark side and Saturn as death (Figure 1.1).

Each section would have hills, moon and the forest (Figure 1.2). However, different triptych would have a different version of the forest and the moon. There would be a river flowing with three lilies but each triptych would have a different version of lilies (Figure 1.3). The first signifying life, second signifying dark thoughts (having red like a bloodstain) and lastly, death (lilies broken into small pieces and floating away).

I decided to add a rock with the word "Silence" as the story mentioned a figure standing over the rock (Figure 1.4). I added a red fog to signify a bad aura lingering in the forest (Figure 1.5).

For the last triptych, I added the word "Silenced" to show that once death is befallen onto someone, they are forever silenced and never utter a word again (Figure 1.6).

Final Design:
I decided to make the triptych to have a maroon background for the borders to stand out even more (Figure 1.6 - Figure 1.8). Figure 1.9 shows the triptych side-by-side.
